There are many models of the process of engineering that include less or more steps but most of them follow the same pattern. The first step in the process of engineering design is to identify the issue. This is an essential step, since failing to clearly and accurately define the issue can cause delays at a later stage in the design cycle. Often the solution to a particular problem will naturally arise in this stage.
